Waddy Htut Guest House GUESTHOUSE $
MAP
( 043-50240; r with shared bathroom K2500-20,000) The novelty of paying the local rate is
almost enough reason to stay here. But as the locals could probably tell you, what you
get for this price is little more than hot, humid closets with shared bath.
Shwe Thazin Hotel HOTEL $$$
MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 043-50168, 09 850 1844; www.shwethazinhotel.com ; r $55-80; ) Built in 2010, this me-
ticulous, handsome compound offers Mrauk U's best balance of price, comfort and loca-
tion. The 23 chalet-style rooms feel spacious and comfortable, and all are en-suite with a
satellite TV, fridge, tub and 24-hour electricity.
Nawarat Hotel HOTEL $$$
MAP
( 043-24200, in Yangon 01-578 786; reservation@nawarathotel.com ; r $38-60; ) It's neither
new nor sexy, but we liked this competent compound of semi-detached concrete bunga-
lows located a short walk from Mrauk U's big sights. All rooms come equipped with
satellite TV, fridge, and balcony, and the price depends on how many people are staying
per room and how many hours of electricity you want.
Vesali Resort Hotel HOTEL $$$
MAP
( 043-50008, 09 858 6426; vesaliresort@gmail.com ; r $45-60; ) Though somewhat incon-
veniently removed from the bulk of the temples and town, the Vesali's 28 semi-detached
bungalows make up for this with dark-wood floors, vaulted ceilings, private decks, mod-
ern bathrooms and 24-hour electricity. An ongoing restoration promises air-con and TV
in all rooms.
Mrauk U Princess Resort HOTEL $$$
$$$
( 043-50232, 09 850 0556; www.mraukooprincessresort.net ; bungalows $320; ) Mrauk
U's most luxurious digs, the Princess offers 23 handsome and large, if somewhat empty-
feeling wooden villas. We liked the vast, tub-equipped bathrooms, and the attractive gar-
dens and ponds that make up the grounds, but given the lack of TV, fridge or other mod-
ern amenities, it all feels more than a little overpriced. Closed July to August.
