One of the most interesting times to visit Mrauk U is during the huge weeklong paya
pwe (pagoda festival) held near Dukkanthein Paya in mid-May. It includes music, dance,
traditional wrestling and boat racing.
Sleeping
Generators keep power going most of the day and night at some guesthouses, and unless
mentioned otherwise, all offer breakfast. At research time, only the Mrauk U Princess
Resort could boast an internet connection, although a few places claimed they were in
the process of getting online.

fan-cooled rooms in the main building for the budget set, and new, air-con (available
from 5pm to 11pm) bungalows across the road for those who can afford a bit more, all in
a homey atmosphere looked after by a team of charming, friendly staff. We wish every
town in Southeast Asia had one of these.
Mrauk U Palace HOTEL $

modation takes the form of 18 identical yellow duplex bungalows equipped with fridge,
hot-water showers and small balconies; the rate is determined by whether or not you
choose to turn on the air-con.

fan-cooled rooms, some with en suite, all needing a fair bit of TLC.
Prince Hotel GUESTHOUSE $

ongoing renovation sees the larger, more expensive rooms given a bit of life, but in gen-
