Weather Spoon's Bagan RESTAURANT $

(Yarkinnthar Hotel Rd; mains K2000-5000; 7am-10pm; ) Brits abroad may be familiar
with the name, borrowed from one of the UK's discount pub chains. Owner Winton stud-
ied balloon piloting in Bristol and clearly spent some time in the local boozers. But
Bagan benefits from his experience and he offers the best burger in town, as well as some
Asian and international favourites. Lively drinking spot by night.
San Kabar Restaurant & Pub ITALIAN $

(Main Rd; pizza K4000-6000, mains K2500-5500; 7am-10pm; ) Famous as the birthplace
of Bagan pizza, the San Kabar's streetside candlelit courtyard is all about its thin-crust
pies and well-prepared salads. There is so much variety on offer here that staff present
diners with not one, but three menus.
Fuji Restaurant JAPANESE $

(Main Rd; mains K2000-4000; 8am-9.30pm) An unexpected find in downtown Nyaung U,
this Japanese restaurant is one of the cheapest you are likely to find in Myanmar. There is
no sushi and sashimi, maybe a blessing given the distance to the coast, but plenty of clas-
sics such as ramen, udon, kyoza and tofu. Affordable international and Burmese dishes
also make a cameo appearance.
Pyi Wa BAMAR, INTERNATIONAL $
MAP GOOGLE MAP
(Yarkinnthar Hotel Rd; noodles & dishes K1500-4000; 7am-10pm) Slightly less stylish than
some, but Pyi Wa is the only restaurant on the row with a Bagan-era zedi (stupa) as a
neighbour and staff light up its base at night. The best dishes are Chinese, but do try the
'potato cracken', fried potato wedges that go particularly well with a bottle of Myanmar
Beer.
Shwe Ya Su BEER STATION $
MAP GOOGLE MAP
(Yarkinnthar Hotel Rd; dishes K1500-4000; 7am-10.30pm) Thanks to the barrels of draught
Myanmar Beer, this place has become quite the local hangout. It's a lively spot to revive
with twinkling fairy lights hanging from the trees and tasty barbecued snacks.
