Getting There & Away
BOAT
With the advent of improved roads and new bridges, the government ferry that previ-
ously ran between Hpa-an and Mawlamyine has been cancelled. In its place, it's possible
to charter a private boat, which seats about 10 people, taking approximately two hours to
reach Mawlamyine (K60,000). This can be arranged at Soe Brothers Guesthouse.
BUS & VAN (SHARE TAXI)
Hpa-an's bus station is located about 4 miles east of town, but tickets can be bought and
buses boarded at the ticket stalls (Bo Gyoke St) near the clock tower; every second bus to
Mawlamyine makes a brief stop to pick up passengers at an unmarked stand (Bo Gyoke
St) nearby. Staff at Soe Brothers can also arrange tickets.
Vans (share taxis) to Myawaddy depart, on odd-numbered days only, from a stall (Bo
Gyoke St) near the clock tower intersection.
