In-Depth Information
Notice that the Device Setup Assistant automatically skipped the Scanning Assistant
and Transcode Settings screens because you selected this device as an archive device.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 to create two additional local archive devices: Audio Archive
and Image Archive . Select the relevant location that corresponds to the name of the
device you are creating (for example, the Image Archive folder in /FCSvr/Archive/
Image Archive).

Quit System Preferences when done.
Now that you've created three archive devices, you'll walk through the process of archiving
and restoring your assets, and also learn some best practices when it comes to quickly
retrieving and identifying archived media.
USER
Archiving Assets
During the archiving process, Final Cut Server moves the primary representation of
the selected assets to the specified archive device. The proxies and metadata informa-
tion remain online, so the proxies are still viewable and the metadata can be searched
and updated if needed. Keeping the proxies online also allows you to continue to use the
Annotations window even though the primary representation has been moved offline.
In this exercise, you'll select a number of assets to archive. You'll utilize the client applica-
tion to archive assets to their relevant archive device and show what this actually looks like
in the file system.
1
Open the client application by double-clicking the Final Cut Server icon on your
desktop, and log in as the administrator.
Perform a search without any keywords to show all available assets in the catalog.
2
3
Right-click the 1000Hz asset (an audio file), and choose Archive to > Audio Archive
from the shortcut menu.
This moves the primary representation associated with the selected asset to the Audio
archive device.
