Using the Paper Tape
If you're doing a series of complex calculations that you'd like to copy and
paste into other apps, open the Paper Tape window, which can be found on
the Window menu. All calculations and results are recorded on it, even if you
clear the calculator, and you can click and drag to select anything “printed”
on it and then copy and paste as usual.
Tip 262
Bookmark Images and PDFs
Preview lets you bookmark files in various ways, as follows.
Bookmarking Files
If there are images or PDFs that you view frequently, you can bookmark them
within Preview. This works just like bookmarking websites within a web
browser like Safari and uses the same keyboard shortcut—just load the image
or PDF and hit COMMAND + D . From then on, click the image or PDF's entry on
Preview's Bookmarks menu to open it instantly.
If you bookmark a multipage PDF file, you'll also bookmark the page you were
reading at the time so that clicking the bookmark in the future will return
you to that page.
Rather cleverly, even if you move the original file from one folder to another,
Preview's bookmark will still link to the file—even if the file has moved into
the trash!
Bookmarks can be renamed or deleted by selecting Bookmarks→Edit Book-
marks. To delete a bookmark, select an entry on the list, and click the Remove
button. To rename a bookmark, just double-click its name within the list.
Bookmarking Sentences or Paragraphs
You can also use the Preview's markup tool to create makeshift bookmarks
within documents that, when clicked, will take you straight to that sentence,
paragraph, or page, as follows:
1.
Open the PDF that you want to create bookmarks in, and activate Preview's
markup (highlighter) pen tool. This can be done by clicking the button
