Find > By Visual Searches > Search For Duplicate Photos
As your catalog of images gets bigger you may find that you end up with multiple copies of
the same image where only small changes are present in each individual photo. You can use
the new Search for Duplicate photos feature to isolate not just those images that are derived
from the same base photo, but also pictures with similar characteristics (taken at the same
time, featuring the same subject, etc).
Right-click any of the im-
ages to be stacked to dis-
play a pop-up menu with
several stack options.
Choose the last entry to
set the photo as the top
image in the stack.
The search feature groups these similar photos and displays them in a new window where
you can create a new stack and add the pictures with a single button click. There are also
options for removing true duplicate images from the catalog (be very careful using this fea-
tures) and for displaying Unique Photos, those not marked as duplicates during the search.
Image thumbnails can be dragged between duplicate and unique sections of the window
allowing you to add images missed by, or mistakenly added by, the search process. You can
set any image as the top of the stack by selecting the option from the right-click menu.
Search For Duplicate Photos workflow:
1 Start by displaying the set of images you want to search in the workspace. You
can search albums, a group of images that you have multi-selected or even
your whole catalog but if you have many images this may take a little while.
2 Choose the Search For Duplicate Photos entry from the Find > By Visual
Searches menu.
3 Click the Stack button on the right of each group of photos to stack the images.
Click the Unstack button to reverse the action.
Access the Duplicate Photo
Search feature from
the drop-down menu
alongside the Search Box
in the Organizer's Options
Bar (above) or via the
entry in the Find > By
Visual Searches menu.
4
To remove a true duplicate image from the Organizer, select the image first and
then click the Remove From Catalog button.
5
Drag incorrectly grouped images from the upper part of the window to the
Unique Photos section at the bottom or drag missed pictures from this section
to their correct group. Click the Done button to complete the process.
