Find > By Visual Searches > Search for Objects Within Photos
The second visual search option included from Photoshop Elements 10 refines the search for
similar pictures idea further by allowing the user to highlight a part of a picture, or object,
as a reference for the search. Armed with this information, Elements searches your catalog,
or open album, for other images containing the same reference object.
The results can be refined in the same way as the Visually Similar search feature with the
Shape/Color slider, giving preference to one characteristic more than the other, as well as
the ability to drag extra reference images to the Options bar.
Once you are happy with the results, the search can be saved as a Saved Search via the Op-
tions menu in the Options bar.
Search For Objects Within Photos workflow:
1 Start by displaying the set of images you want to search in the workspace. You

search. If no picture is selected then the first image in the workspace will be
used.
3 Choose the Search For Objects Within Photos entry from the Find > By Visual
menu.
4
After the display is switched to single image view, resize the displayed marquee
so that it sits around the search object in the photo. Click the Search Object
icon to start the search or Cancel to quit the feature.
5
After the candidate photos are displayed refine the search by dragging photos
with similar characteristics to the + sign on the options bar.
6

bar and dragging the slider control between the Shape or Color options.
