8.3.2.5 Step 5: Performing an Oracle Solaris Interactive Installation
Oracle VM Manager includes a Java-based VNC client. This built-in client pro-
vides a relatively low-resolution display—a lower resolution, in fact, than is used
for the standard Solaris desktop, and one that limits the visibility of the entire
Solaris desktop. In addition to the built-in-VNC client, you can use any other
VNC client of your choosing. Click the Show link in the Details column for the
virtual machine to find out which VNC port to use. Connect to that port on the
server listed in the Server Name column. Although the widely used vncviewer
may provide an even better experience than the Java VNC client based on its
higher screen resolution, the Java client is always available.
Once you connect via VNC using the password you selected earlier as the con-
sole password, you are presented with a standard Solaris interactive installation,
as shown in Figure 8.10. As a best practice, use the Interactive Text (Console
Session) selection to realize the most efficient installation experience. While it is
possible to do a graphical installation via VNC, it can be an unsatisfactory experi-
ence, especially with a slow network connection.
