Creating cards
Yet another type of visualization is a list of cards. Each card is a group of fields that you define. If the
card includes the default label and default image fields (as defined in the Data Model), the default
label displays in the card with a larger font than the other text fields, and the default image displays
larger than other images that you include in the card, if any. The layout section for a card is similar to
the one for a table, having only a Tile By and Fields area.
Converting a table to cards
Whereas charts and maps require numeric fields, the card visualization uses any type of field. In
the following example, we use a combination of field types to produce a card for employees: text,
numeric, and image.
Click the View section anywhere other than the map to start a new table. Add the fol-
lowing fields from the Employee table: EmployeeName , EmployeePhoto , Phone , Title , and
SalesAmount .
1.
On the Design tab, click Table and then, on the menu that appears, click Card to convert the
table. A scroll bar appears if there are more cards than currently visible. Notice the size of the
employee name text relative to other text in the card shown in Figure 5-30. Notice also that
the field name appears below each value for all other non-image fields in the card.
2.
FIGURE 5-30 You can arrange any type of field in a card visualization.
restructuring cards
As you work with a visualization, you might decide to reorder the fields or adjust its size. Power View
makes it easy to make changes to the structure of the visualization and immediately see the results in
the view.
1. In the layout section for the cards, rearrange the fields to how they appear in Figure 5-31.
Notice the employee photo does not change location in the card. The default image always
displays on the left side of the card, regardless of its position in the list of fields.
