Rebel MODERN DANISH
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 33 32 32 09; www.restaurantrebel.dk ; Store Kongensgade 52; dishes
Dkr119; 5.30-10.30pm Tue-Sat)
Award-winning Rebel prides itself on dishing out arresting, modern Danish grub without
the fanfare. The black-and-white dining space is relatively small, simple and unadorned,
giving all the attention to inspired creations like cured scallops with cucumber and dill, or
tender sirloin with rose hip, pickled onions and kohlrabi. Trust the sommelier's wine
choices, which include some extraordinary Old and New World drops. There's a minimum
order of two dishes per person.
Damindra JAPANESE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 33 12 33 75; www.damindra.dk ; Holbergsgade 26; lunch dishes
Dkr175-398, 7-course dinner tasting menu Dkr750 (min 2 persons);
11am-3pm & 5-10pm Tue-Sat;
11A, 66, Kongens Nytorv)
We wouldn't be surprised if Japanese Damindra lands a Michelin star in the next few
years. From the buttery sashimi to an unforgettable prawn tempura, dishes are obscenely
fresh and mesmerising. The evening 'Chef's Choice' set sushi menu (Dkr398) provides
the perfect culinary tour, while desserts such as green tea ice cream with plum compote
and fresh wasabi cream make for a wicked epilogue.
Christianshavn
Copenhagen Street Food INTERNATIONAL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; copenhagenstreetfood.dk ; Warehouse 7 & 8, Trangravsvej 14, Papirøen; dishes
from Dkr40; food stalls generally noon-10pm; ; 11A, 66, Papirøen)
Take a disused warehouse, pack it with artisan food trucks and stalls, hipster baristas and a
chilled-out bar or two, and you have yourself this hot little newcomer. The emphasis is on
fresh, affordable grub, from handmade pasta, tacos and ratatouille, to organic koldskål
(cold buttermilk dessert). Portions aren't huge but the quality is high.
If the weather's on your side, grab a sunchair and catch some rays by the harbour.
