Edges
Careful selection of how or whether to display edges in the rendering can create
very dramatic results:
Show Outline Edges This selection defi nes whether you want to calculate the
profi le edges of the model or just show a shape that is colored.
Show Interior Edges Choose this option to display the tangent or other sharp
edges of the model's interior.
Thickness The Thickness value is a sliding scale that controls the thickness of
the edges that are selected to be displayed. Although no specifi c width value is
offered, the effect is very noticeable, and the range of line widths (thickness) is
dramatic.
Color Clicking the color sample brings up the Inventor color-selection dialog
box, which lets you choose a color for the displayed edges.
Creating a Quick Rendering
Let's go ahead and make a quick rendering to use as a base to be able to see the
effects of the changes you'll make along the way:
1. In the fan assembly, expand the V-Belt Transmission:1 component,
right-click Grooved Pulley2, and pick Open to bring the pulley into a
new window.
2. Switch to the View tab. In the Appearance panel, expand the
Orthographic view, and switch to Perspective.
Using a perspective view gives an additional level of realism
because you see everything in perspective naturally.
3. Switch the Ribbon to the Environments tab, and pick the Inventor
Studio icon.
4. Modify your view to resemble Figure 9.34.
5. Click the Render Image tool.
6. Change the Resolution to a minimum of 800 × 600 using the pull-
down list to the right of the Width and Height input.
7. Without changing any other values, click the Render button.
8. Figure 9.35 shows the result. Note the refl ections of faces on other faces.
