28. You want to save all the changes to the layers to the standard, so click
the Yes to All button and then the OK button to update the standard.
29. A safety message appears, warning you that you're modifying the
standard. Click Yes to approve the changes.
Again, these types of changes aren't to be taken lightly. With that said, it's
easy to change things back if you don't like the way they look.
Creating a New Template
Creating a new title block or modifying your border is great, but you won't want
to have to do it repeatedly. You need to add this drawing as a template that can
be used over and over again:
1. Click the Application menu (the big I icon) at upper left in the Inventor
window. Pick the arrow to the right of Save As, and select Save as
Template from the list of options.
When you select a template for a new fi le, the dialog contains three
tabs: Default, English, and Metric. The English and Metric tabs exist
because there are English and Metric folders under Templates .
Adding another folder to this location adds another tab to the New
File dialog. This is a great way to easily organize your template fi les.
2. Click the Create New Folder icon, and name the new folder NER .
Pressing Enter activates this new folder in the dialog.
3. Give your new fi le the name Inventor NER.dwg , and click Save.
4. Inventor warns you that you're saving a fi le outside of the active proj-
ect. Normally, this is a bad thing; but because you're creating a new
template, click Yes to approve.
5. Close the drawing fi le that is open in Inventor. Say No to saving
changes as it closes.
6. Create a new fi le using the Inventor NER.dwg template in the NER tab.
You've now come full circle. You created a new fi le from an existing template
to create a new template from which to create a new fi le. I'm sure you've done
that more than once before in other applications, but it's good to know that the
basics are the same in Inventor.
Just as a part fi le needs a base feature and an assembly needs a base part, the
drawing starts everything with a base view.
