FIGURE 2.46 The Hole dialog box
The options in the fi rst group, Placement, refl ect which type of placement you
select from the fl y-out menu:
Linear This is the default placement. To use it, select the face on which you
want to place the hole, and select two edges from which you want to position it.
When you select an edge, a dimension is placed showing the hole's current dis-
tance from the edge. You have to click both edges before you can change the
dimension value for placing the hole. The edges don't have to be perpendicular
to each other, but they can't be parallel. The Reference buttons allow you to fl ip
the hole to the other side of the edge that you're dimensioning from.
From Sketch This placement option asks you to select points on an existing
sketch to place holes on. In your sketch, if you've specifi ed that a point is a hole
center (by using the sketching override buttons on the Inventor standard tool-
bar or by using the Center Point tool in a 2D sketch), it's automatically selected
for placing a hole. If a point that you don't want to use is automatically selected,
you can deselect it by holding the Ctrl key and clicking the point.
Concentric This is a common way of placing holes. You select a plane to place
the hole on and then select an arc, a circle, or a face with a radius on which to
center the hole.
On Point The last option is similar to From Sketch, but the hole center has to
be placed on a special point called a work point . You can select a direction vector
for the hole based on a model edge, or a work axis .
