85, apt €140-280; Mar-Sep; )
This ageing hotel is in the centre of town. Its rooms are simply appointed but comfortable
enough; those that face the carpark can be noisy. There's one suite that's worth the upgrade
for the view alone. The 'hostel' rooms share bathrooms, and there are also apartments,
more modern and stylish than the main hotel.
The restaurant (mains €16 to €27, open 5pm to 11pm) is the best around, and serves de-
cent Lapp-style food. The bar is the town's watering hole.
Information
The petrol station and Kilpisjärven Retkeilykeskus also sell trekking maps.

At the southern end of the village, this national park centre is effectively the tourist in-
formation office. It has maps, advice on trekking and a nature display.
Getting There & Away
Two daily buses connect Rovaniemi and Kilpisjärvi (€72.90, six to eight hours) via Kittilä,
Levi and Muonio, with connection to Hetta. In summer one heads on to Tromsø, Norway.
It's a spectacular drive from Muonio to Kilpisjärvi (196km). There are petrol stations at
Kaaresuvanto (where there's a border crossing into Sweden) and Kilpisjärvi itself.
