Around the corner from Kuusamo's bus station, this college offers great budget accom-
modation in comfortable spacious rooms with en suites (some share shower facilities) in a
variety of buildings; there are kitchen and laundry facilities. The bad news is that you have
to arrive during office hours (8am to 3.45pm Monday to Friday), though you may be able
to arrange a key drop by calling ahead.

At the Ruka turn-off on the main road is this friendly motel-style set-up offering good
value. Rooms are small apartments sleeping up to five, and have spacious bathroom and a
small, equipped kitchen. It's a steal in summer. The owners will take groups of walkers to
the Karhunkierros trailheads.

Down at the foot of the fell at the turn-off to Rukajärvi, this small and intimate hotel looks
like a children's fort to be populated with toy soldiers. It's the closest to a boutique hotel in
the Kuusamo area; service is excellent here, and the classy restaurant offers delicacies
such as roast hare. From July to November it only opens for bookings.
