Of course, lots of variations can be built around these three basic setups or shot
types by adding other descriptive words to them such as ultra, medium, or extreme.
So for example, we may decide that we want to make use of a medium wide or me-
dium close up shot, both of which would obviously add either a little bit more or a
little bit less to the original shot types framing.
The danger, however, with using only these somewhat straightforward shot types
is the fact that they tend to present a somewhat ordinary view of the scene to us.
This mainly comes down to the fact that we see these types of views all the time as
we tend to focus our attention and examine our surroundings in these three general
ways.
When out and about, especially when visiting somewhere new, we tend to take in
our surroundings in a broad way, seeing how the environment connects together as
it were. When in our homes or at work, we tend to navigate the enclosed space by
focusing on or being aware of elements and objects that are in our more immediate
vicinity. Finally, of course, when we are occupied with much more specific tasks such
as preparing a meal or working on a computer, our vision becomes very much fo-
cused on just one or two very specific elements in our environment.
