Besides, the distance type shots that we have already mentioned, which obviously
deal (for the most part) with moving the camera into and/or out of a scene, we could
also make use of the camera's height or Z axis position.
The high shot
The high shot is a situation in which the viewing camera is deliberately placed above,
sometimes high above the subject that is the focal point of the shot. In motion pic-
tures, this type of shot is often employed to create a sense of smallness or vulnerab-
ility in the character(s) that we are viewing. Another way of looking at the same setup
would be to see it as emphasizing the scale, possibly the grandeur, or maybe even
the intimidating nature of the environment itself.
This type of shot can be very effectively used to give the viewer an overview or bird's
eye view of a location and add drama, of course, as shown in the following screen-
