After dark, a
night market
of food stalls lines Jl Pejanggik, just east of Mataram Mall. Dur-
ing
Ramadan
many of the places listed here remain open during the day with a curtain at the
window discreetly shielding diners. During the rest of the year, most places are open daily
from around 10am to 9pm.

Of Mataram's many markets, Kebon Roek in Ampenan
is the most frantic, packed with stalls selling food, household goods and all the necessities of
daily life.

Follow the lead of
domestic tourists, who flock to buy good-quality locally cultivated South Sea pearls, as well
