BY BUS OR BEMO
If you're arriving by bus or bemo from anywhere except Senggigi, you'll come into Manda-
lika bus terminal, Lombok's main transport hub. It's in the suburb of Bertais, on the eastern
edge of the city, and is sometimes known as the Bertais terminal or even, confusingly, as the
Sweta terminal because that's the suburb where it used to be located. As well as transport to
destinations around Lombok, Mandalika also runs long-distance a/c buses from and to ma-
jor Indonesian cities. For those catching a bemo out of Mataram to Lembar (for Sekotong or
boats to Bali), there's a conveniently central pick-up point in Cakranegara, just south of the
market on Jl AA Gede Ngurah; bemos for Bangsal (for boats to the Gili Islands) pick up just
around the corner, near Pura Meru on Jl Tumpang Sari. Arriving from Senggigi, you'll come
into the Kebon Roek terminal in Ampenan. If travelling to Senggigi or on to Mangsit, there
are frequent bemos throughout the day until about 6pm; pick them up on Jl Saleh Sungkar,
just north of the turn-off to the Kebon Roek terminal.

(2hr); Lembar (30min); Pemenang (for the Gili Islands; 1hr); Pomotong (for Tetebatu; 1hr

GETTING AROUND
By bemo Bright-yellow city bemos (Rp3000) ply numerous routes between the Kebon Roek
and Mandalika terminals until late evening.
By taxi Alternatively, clearly marked metered Blue Bird taxis ( 0370 627000,

bluebird-

group.com ) and Express taxis ( 0370 635968, expressgroup.co.id ) are plentiful; the ini-

tial pick-up charge is Rp4700.
By bike or motorbike Oka & Son Guest House rents out bicycles (from Rp40,000/day) and
motorbikes (Rp60,000/day).
INFORMATION
Tourist office The regional tourist office (Provincial Tourist Service for West Nusa Tenggara,
Dinas Kabudayan Dan Pariwisata NTB, Jl Langko 70, Ampenan; Mon-Fri 7am-7pm;
0370 640471) is unfortunately of limited use, only handing out promotional brochures. The
tourism desk at the airport is not always staffed.
