INFORMATION AND ACTIVITIES
Banks and post There is a postal agent and currency exchange (Mon-Sat 10am-4pm) on the
main road, 25m south of the accommodation turn-off, but the nearest ATM is in Semarapura.
Cooking courses Warung Lihat Sawah runs cooking courses and arranges whitewater rafting
on the Telaga Waja.
Walks and trekking Jana, at Jana restaurant, leads walks around Sidemen (Rp70,000/hr)
and treks up Gunung Agung (Rp800,000/two people).
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation area is west off the main road, in Dusun Tabola. The access road forks
400m west of the main road; the following listings give directions from the fork. Many of
the places to stay are small-scale “villas”, often with just half a dozen rooms, constructed in
prime spots scattered across the ricefields. As it's reasonably cool here at night almost none
have a/c; few have restaurants, either, but many have kitchenettes. Bring earplugs to muffle
the cacophony of the nightly frog chorus.

al views of Gunung Agung across a gorgeous swathe of ricefields. Their budget guesthouse
next door has the same views (Rp150,000) - check website for details. Treks up Agung cost
Rp500,000 for two people, and there are cooking classes and opportu nities for yoga and
meetings with traditional healers. Pick-ups from Sidemen/Selat possible. Rp500,000

DVD players and private terraces overlooking a small rice paddy. There's a small restaurant,
too, with mai ns from R p35,000 (daily 7am-9pm). Run by Sidemen's English-speaking nurse

eral places run by the Lihat Sawah family, this comprises four exceptionally attractive two-
storey villas. Built in wood and thatch to a sophisticated Bali-modern/antique design, they are
huge and beautifully appointed. Verandas gi ve o nto a profuse garden and have great ricefield
and Agung views. Each villa can sleep four. $52
Lihat Sawah 100m along the right-hand fork 0366 530 0519, lihatsawah.com . The local
English teacher and his family run the liveliest place to stay, with a dozen rooms, from simple
cold-water options to very comfortable deluxe bungalows with hot water and pretty views;
there's also a small pool and a very nice family villa. Activities include villag e walks a nd
day-trips, there's an on-site restaurant (daily 7.30am-10pm) and staff are lovely. Rp375,000
