casional nights at beach clubs . Many clubs stage live music and special events, detailed in the
free fortnightly magazine the beat , available throughout the resort. For more sophisticated
boozing, head to the beach clubs like Ku Dé Ta , Mozaic and Potato Head , though be aware
that dress codes apply in the first two.
KUTA
Apache Reggae Bar Jl Legian 146 0361 761213; map . Tucked in what seems to be a
Balinese barn beside Bounty , Kuta's reggae spot is all heavy bass and dreadheads grooving
to the beats, played live several times a week and by resident DJs. Daily 8pm-3am.
Bounty Jl Legian, near Poppies 2 junction bountydiscotheque.com ; map . Here it is then,
the infamous hub of bare-chested boozy excess, centred around a replica of Captain Bligh's
galleon. Expect hip-hop and mainstream dance, bands (mostly rock) on live music stages,
themed foam parties and much drunkeness. A love-or-loathe experience. Daily 10am-4am.
Paddy's Club Jl Legian 66, near Poppies 2 intersection 0361 726666; map . Part of
the Bounty complex and just as popular, this huge, open-sided place gets crammed; think
chart sounds, drinking competitions and foam parties for teenagers and twenty-somethings.
Reasonably priced beer, though. Daily 7.30am-3am.
Sky Garden Jl Legian 61, across from Poppies 2 61legian.com ; map . Not as cool as it
likes to think, but this multibar/club venue is loud, lively and fun, with various rooms pump-
ing out different sounds and terraces with views across the resort. Daily 5pm-3am.
Twice Bar Poppies 2; map . A dark entry corridor leads to a darker room - welcome to Kuta's
grungey rock club. Perfect if you're into hardcore underground stuff and a decent place to
hear alternative local bands. Daily 8pm-3am.
LEGIAN
De Ja Vu Jl Pantai Arjuna 7 0361 732777; map . This place receives so-so reviews about
the food, so stick instead to the cocktails, supped beachside in a modern lounge bar that has
an uniterrupted view of the sea. Daily 8am-11pm.
La Vida Loca Pantai Arjuna 7; map . Salsa, Nu Yorica, Cuban son and the occasional burst
into Brazilian samba in a small rather scruffy nightspot just behind the beach, with a live
band nightly around 11pm. Daily 8pm-3am.
SEMINYAK, PETITENGET AND KEROBOKAN
Hu'u Jl Petitenget 0361 473 6576, huubali.com ; map . There's style and atmosphere at
this hip drink 'n' dine place that's quiet midweek but rocks at weekends. Think sofas in a
candlelit garden with a swimming pool and dancing in a lofty bar; the DJ starts at 11pm and
the pace cranks up aided by lychee martinis. Mon-Fri 11am-1am, Sat & Sun 11am-2am.
