5
Drag it downward behind the
Earth Roll - Fill.mov layer.
6
With the logo layer clearly above
the Earth's horizon, press
'Ctrl
D' to Split the
layer, making a copy of the logo
layer ( Logo Rise Text 2 ) - the new layer's In Point begins, while the
original layer ends, at the split point.
Shift
7
Drag the new layer (already selected) to the top of the layer stack
above the Earth layers.
8
Once again, drag the CTI back and forth to watch the results in the
Comp Window.
Splitting Layers is very useful for solving layer order issues where items shift from
the foreground to the background, pass in front of then behind other items, then
return to the foreground. A few well-placed Split Layers quickly alleviate layer
order contradictions.
We've solved the problem with the logo's order, now we need to make the
logo fly away.
9
Jump to 7:00, then Split (Ctrl
Shift
D) layer 1 again.
10
Drag Earth Roll - Alpha.mov up to the top of
the Timeline stack above the newly split
layer, then switch it 'off'.
11
Press 'Alt
[' (open bracket, to the right of 'P').
12
Set layer 2's Track Matte button to 'Luma
Matte'.
Notice that the Earth still keys correctly, even when the Alpha's source layer is
both 'off' and has its In and Out Points different from the layer using it as the
Alpha. This is because any layer using another layer as their effect source looks
at the original resource file prior to most functions applied to the source layer.
This is a very confusing concept and, of course, has many exceptions.
Scrub the CTI to 7:20 and review the new result. The logo now flies into the
Earth and disappears into its edge. Save your work.
