In-Depth Information
Your Mac Pro comes with six Thunderbolt ports for connecting peripherals such as
displays, hard drives, and video-editing devices. You can connect Thunderbolt
devices directly to Mac Pro, or you can daisy-chain devices. This means that if, say,
device A comes with multiple Thunderbolt ports, you can connect device B to device
A and then connect device A to Mac Pro. Your Mac Pro supports Thunderbolt 2, but
is also backward-compatible with Thunderbolt 1 cables and devices.
Network Ports
The Mac Pro supports Gigabit Ethernet for a physical connection to a network (wire-
less connections are also possible; see Chapter 21 ) . Gigabit means that Mac Pro
supports network connections up to one billion bits per second, although its ports
are also compatible with slower networks. Mac Pro comes with two Gigabit Ethernet
network ports, which allows Mac Pro to connect to two different networks.
