Reviewing the Mac Pro Ports
You can connect your Mac Pro to a wide variety of external devices such as displays, hard
drives, printers, digital cameras, iPhones, speakers, and microphones. Although your Mac
Pro does support wireless device connections using Bluetooth (see the section “ Pair with a
Bluetooth Device ), most device connections occur by running a cable from the device to a
port on your Mac Pro. To help you purchase your devices and to help you make the device
connections, you need to understand the different types of ports that come with Mac Pro.
USB Ports
Your Mac Pro comes with four Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports for connecting
devices such as hard drives, printers, digital cameras, iPhones, and iPads. Your
Mac Pro supports USB 3, which is the latest and fastest version of USB. However,
the Mac Pro USB ports are also compatible with the earlier USB 1 and USB 2, so
you can still use cables and devices that only support these older versions.
