Gay/Lesbian
The French government is one of the most supportive of gay
rights in the world. The Pacte Civile de Solidarité , which became
law in 1999, gives unmarried couples of any sort the same
legal protection as married heterosexual couples. Since May
2001, Paris has had an openly gay mayor, Bertrand Delanöe
who was re-elected in 2008 and remains Mayor until 2014.
Paris hosts the largest Gay Pride Parade in Europe each
year in late June. For more details on activities, check the
website www.tetu.com. It is in French, but pretty easy to
understand. There is also the Centre Gai et Lesbien (3 rue
Keller, 75011 Paris, tel 01 43 57 21 47) which serves as a
meeting place for various groups in Paris.
Act Up Paris meets every Tuesday at 7:00 pm at l'École des
Beaux-Arts , 14 rue Bonaparte, 75006 Paris, tel 01 48 06 13 89.
These are good spots to meet people and i nd out more about
local organisations and activities.
