Creating a Website from Scratch
You'll learn in this section how to create a website for a band.
All you need is an example band: Bang Shang A Lang , a real
pub group headquartered in Sydney, Australia, have graciously
allowed us to use their name, photos, and other online content
in this example. The website you'll create needs to have an
unconventional look and feel to reflect the informal character
of The Bangers, yet requires easy audience navigation. Xara
Xtreme's unique design-centric web creation tools are well
suited for this task.

Setting Up the Workspace for Web Creation
The monitor sizes and screen resolutions users run are
increasing yearly. As of 2008, http://3schools.com reported
that 86% of web users are using a screen resolution of 1024 s
768 pixels or larger. To keep ahead of the curve, you begin by
defining a page for The Bangers' website accordingly. You do
not , however, set the width of your web pages to 1024px or
greater. Browser elements such as toolbars and scroll bars take
up screen space, and audiences don't always navigate with a
maximized window. Xara offers a preset for a 955px XGA wide
page, a good default size for a web page, which you'll use in the

1. Choose the 955 Pix Web Page (XGA) template from

the File | New menu. In your own work, you can use
the Paper section of the Page Size tab in Options
( CRTL - SHIFT - O ) to set a custom width or height for
your page. For Bang Shang A Lang's site, stick to this
default template size.
