In-Depth Information
February
Almond trees in bloom cast flurries of white blossom across the coun-
tryside. High-spirited carnivals shake the island out of its winter slumber
for pre-Lenten feasting and parading. Many places are still closed.
Carnivals
The pre-Lenten season kicks off with parades across the island. In Palma a children's
procession, Sa Rueta, is followed by the grown-ups' version, Sa Rua, with pumping mu-
sic, fancy dress and colourful floats.
March
A glorious month, with solemn Easter celebrations, wildflowers flourishing
and fantastic birdwatching in the Parc Natural de S'Albufera.
Semana Santa
Follow the Semana Santa (Holy Week) processions around the island. Begin in Palma on
Holy Thursday evening, then head to Pollença for its moving Good Friday Davallament
(bringing down). On Easter Sunday, head to Montuïri's S'Encuentro.
April
Mallorcan hotels and restaurants dust off the cobwebs, and resorts start to
fill. Milder days make this a brilliant month for hiking and mountain biking.
Fira del Vi
Pollença pops a cork on regional wines at its Fira del Vi (Wine Fair) in the Convent de
Sant Domingo in late April.
