In-Depth Information
May
Coastal Mallorca has a real spring in its step as resorts come to life.
Sa Fira
Since 1318, Sineu has been the setting for Sa Fira, the island's largest and most authentic
livestock and produce market, held on May's first Sunday.
Es Firó
On the second weekend of May, Sóller stages Es Firó, where the town's heroic defend-
ers, led by the so-called Valiant Women, fight off Muslim pirates as in 1561, amid much
merriment.
Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi (on the Thursday of the ninth week after Easter) is a major celebration in
Palma. The weeks leading up to it are marked by concerts in the city's baroque court-
yards.
June
Mallorca moves into top gear. Patron saints' festivals, where religious tra-
dition mixes with good old-fashioned pagan partying, are the excuse for
many a knees-up.
Nit de Sant Joan
The feast day of St John (24 June) is preceded the night before by fiery partying on the
Nit de Sant Joan. In Palma, there's correfoc (fire running), concerts and partying on the
beaches until dawn.
July
There's little to interrupt the lazy days on the beach and long liquid nights.
