Semantic Modeling of Address
This Appendix takes another look at address semantic
modeling proposed by the MDM Alliance Group 1 . The
objective is to represent the address in a universal manner,
with the help of the UML standard. To do this, we define two
central semantic concepts:
− the Territory Office, which identifies the administrative
territories that distribute mail;
− the Territory , which describes the geography of a
country, independently of organizations that distribute the
mail.
By associating these two concepts, it is then possible to
build addresses depending on the standards of each country
(see examples in Table A.1).
It is important to bear in mind that a semantic model is
not yet the representation of the database at a logical level,
and even less at a physical level.
