The path up Bílá hora starts north of the main square and passes through a
stone gate inscribed 'Cuius Regio - Eius Religio - 1111' ('Whose Place - His
Place - 1111'). On the slopes are the remains of the Gothic castle walls; climb
the 166 steps up the tower.
If you happen to catch a rainy day here, there are two museums on the
square. The Štramberk Museum ( 556 852 284; www.muzeum.novy-ji-
cin.cz ; náměstí 31; adult/concession 50/20Kč; 9am-noon & 1-5pm Tue-Sun) focuses on
local archaeology, folk furniture and art. The Museum Zdeňka Buriana (

1-5pm Tue-Sun) exhibits the works of a locally born painter who chose Stone Age
people as his subjects.
The Štramberk Municipal Brewery (Městský Pivovar; 556 813 710;
www.relaxvpodhuri.cz ; náměstí 5; mains 100-200Kč; 11am-10pm Mon-Sat, to 8pm
Sun; ) is the real centre of activity, offering its own light and dark beers as well
as bar snacks and full meals. Be sure to try Štramberské uši (Štramberk ears),
conical ginger biscuits with honey and spices, usually served with cream. Ac-
cording to legend, the ears originally belonged to unfortunate Tatar prisoners of
war.
The Štramberk Municipal Information Centre (Městské informační centrum;
558 840 617; www.stramberk.cz ; Zauličí 456) is situated near the square: they can
help find and book accommodation.
Buses for Štramberk leave hourly most days from Nový Jičín (a stopover on
most Olomouc-Ostrava buses). The ride takes about 20 minutes and costs
about 25Kč.
