Usually known by its nickname 'Ponorka' (literally 'submar-
ine'), this is possibly the loudest, smokiest and most crowded rock club/pub in the
Czech Republic (and that's saying something). The scene is mostly aging rockers and
punks still living in the good ol' days, but on occasional evenings there are legendary
concerts.

WORTH A DETOUR: WHITE MOUNTAIN PARADISE OF
ŠTRAMBERK
The village of Štramberk, nestled on the slopes of White Mountain (Bílá hora), is
a pristine slice of northern Moravia that's easily reachable from Olomouc by bus
or car, via the town of Nový Jičín.
The main attractions here are the undisturbed rural setting and a ruined
clifftop castle you can hike to for views across the surrounding valleys. Oh, and
there's a terrific microbrewery here too, so you'll have somewhere to recover
after you've finished your walk.
