Le Palais is housed in a gorgeous belle époque building
dating from the end of the 19th century that was once home to Czech artist Luděk
Marold (1865-98; his former apartment is now rooms 407 to 412). It has been beauti-
fully restored, complete with original floor mosaics, period fireplaces, marble stair-
cases, wrought-iron balustrades, frescoes, painted ceilings and delicate stucco work.
The luxury bedrooms are decorated in warm shades of yellow and pink, while the
various suites - some located in the corner tower, some with a south-facing balcony -
make the most of the hotel's superb location, perched on top of a bluff with views of
the Vyšehrad fortress. Within easy walking distance of bars and restaurants in
Vinohrady and about 15 minutes by foot from the top of Wenceslas Square.

Popular with business travellers, the Louren is a
small luxury hotel with 13 rooms and seven suites, set in a grand 19th-century apart-
ment building. Stylish decor and attentive service are accompanied by thoughtful little
touches such as bathrobes and fresh flowers. The rooms are decorated in restful, neut-
ral tones (lots of cream and light wood).
The building dates from 1889 and has been restored to its former grandeur. Service
can't be faulted, and the staff are courteous and very helpful. Rates are frequently dis-
counted on its website.
