('the Hollow') is a popular American expat bar plastered with old rock gig posters
ranging from Led Zep and REM to Kiss and Shania Twain. There's a little beer
garden out the back shaded by lime and walnut trees, smiling staff serving up a rotat-
ing selection of regional beers and microbrews, and a menu that includes good bur-
gers, steaks, ribs and chicken wings.

Owned by a syndicate of oenophiles including film directors Jan Hřebejk and David
Ondříček, this quaint little bar is named after the movie
Sideways

Czech), which was set in the California vineyards. The main attraction (other than the
chance of being served by a film director) is the extensive menu of top-notch Moravi-
an wines.

First opened in 1914, and given a complete facelift in 2007, the Imperial is a tour
de force of art-nouveau tiling - the walls and ceiling are covered in original ceramic
tiles, mosaics, sculptured panels and bas-reliefs, with period light fittings and bronzes
scattered about. The coffee is good, there are cocktails in the evening, and the cafe
menu offers all-day English and American breakfasts.

It's easy to walk past this place, but it is worth seeking out -
head through the back to find a couple of relaxing rooms, one fitted out as a library,
with well-spaced tables and comfy chairs. They take their coffee seriously here, using
only freshly roasted and ground coffee beans (counter service only). Excellent, freshly
prepared sandwiches are also available.
