When to Go
Summer offers the best weather for horse riding, hiking and mountain biking but winter
sports are also possible - think ice fishing, dog sledding and long-distance ice skating.
Independent travellers arriving in summer will have a good chance to link up with others
to share costs.
Best Times
July and August Weather is fair across the country and summer rains bring life back to
the pasturelands. This is an especially good time for horse trekking.
September This is perhaps the best month for fishing. It's also a great time for trekking in
northern Mongolia.
February If you are considering a winter sport like cross-country skiing, February is a
good time. There will be a decent amount of snow cover by now and temperatures will be
warming slightly by the day.
Times to Avoid
March and April Spring weather is plagued by strong winds and dust storms. This is not
a good time for horse trekking as animals will be weak after the long winter. The land-
scape - bare, brown earth - is at its least photogenic.
December and January These are the coldest months of the year and you'll get the least
amount of daylight. Temperatures can plummet to -35°C at this time.
