Hiking
The number of marked hiking trails in Mongolia is almost zero. So hikers need to plan
their own routes and have good navigational skills (plus maps, GPS and a compass). Pay
any fees and procure any permits required by local authorities. Be aware of local laws,
regulations and etiquette about wildlife and the environment.
Mosquitoes and midges are a curse. The situation is at its worst during spring and
early summer, with the marshy lakes and canyons in the western deserts the most
troublesome areas.
