There are numerous ger camps in stunning locations on the western shore (but only a
couple on the east). Most have electricity, running water, flush toilets and showers, and
offer a lower price if you bring and cook your own food. The majority open in mid-June
and close around the end of August or early September. If you're looking for eco-sustain-
ability, both Nature's Door and Toilogt score highly.
The main group of camps start where the road meets the lake, after descending from
the Jankhai Davaa pass.
Jigleg Camp

Basic lodge that serves as a handy pit stop for trekkers on
their way to Renchinlkhumbe (it's right at the Jigleg trail head). The camp is 90km north

This
eco-conscious camp is in a splendid location on its own little peninsula north of the other
ger camps. Accommodation is a mix of teepees, gers and adorable wooden cabins, Eng-
lish is spoken, and the dining room is a hive of activity in the evenings. The camp offers
bikes, boats and horses for hire, and boat transfers from Khatgal can be organised in ad-
vance at the Ulaanbaatar office.

This popular backpacker hang-out has plush cabins, a lodge, English-
speaking staff and welcome pizza and pasta on the menu, not to mention the best hot
(solar-powered) showers in northern Mongolia. Even if you're staying in one of the gers
or camping (the price includes hot showers), you get access to the lounge with games. As
an eco-conscious camp, Nature's Door gets high marks for composting and recycling.
Nature's Door is associated with Garage 24 in Khatgal; it's about 5km northeast of
Jankhai Davaa.
