In-Depth Information
(Ankara Gudamj; meals T4000-6000; 11am-8pm Mon-Sat; ) This cute, better-than-the-av-
erage guanz is decked out with ger-style furniture and old black-and-white photos of
steppe life on the walls. Menu items include freshly made buuz (T700) and khuushuur
(T1200), plus guriltei shuul (noodle soup) made in a hotpot (T6000). It's a friendly place
with quality food, although the overall scene is a bit scruffier than it needs to be. You
can't miss the fantastic signboard outside, designed like a Mongolian table.

(Juulchin Gudamj; meals T4000-5500; 11am-8.30pm Mon-Sat; ) With a rundown
facade and a bare-bones interior, this cafe may not be the most cosy place in town, but
the all-vegan menu does offer a good variety of healthy and tasty dishes. Try the mogul , a
veggie stir-fry served on a sizzling platter, one of the half-dozen soups, or veggie buuz .
Ask to see the 'special menu' featuring fruit shakes and herbal teas.

9am-7pm Sat & Sun; ) The Latin music playing in the background, ochre-painted
walls and contemporary artwork make for a pleasant welcome when entering this laid-
back cafe. It's popular with students and travellers looking for some cheap eats and wi-fi.
The menu offers reasonably priced sandwiches, soups and home-baked muffins. The
food is so-so in terms of taste, but it's usually pretty filling and fairly priced. There is
also a shop downstairs where you can get imported goods and bakery items.
