7. Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is one of the most renowned chapels in the Apostolic Palace, which is
the official Papal residence within the Vatican City. The structure was first called the Capella
Magna, until it was restored under the instruction of Pope Sixtus IV in the late 1470s.
Over the years, it has served as the location for a range of religious and functionary papal
duties. It is also the site of the Papal conclave, which is better known as the process respons-
ible for selecting a new Pope.
The draw of this church is certainly faith-based, given the role that the chapel plays in the
day-to-day Papal activities, but is it also immensely famous for the intricate frescos that
