maps (2013); and Practical use on maps (2013). The map types used for data
visualization are digital maps, Google maps and scanned (static) maps.
The scanned maps are uploaded as photos. These maps are available photos of
thematic maps produced by experts of specialist institutes. Depending on the
resolution of the photo, the maps can be zoomed in and out.
The Google maps (2013) visualize data uploaded on a Google background
map (2013). Registered users can upload information linked to coordinates.
The user can zoom and search on these types of maps.
The digital maps (2013) belong to the ENFO project interactive GIS map
database. They visualize geographic information system (GIS) data layers and
other environmental information and help in locating contaminated and waste
disposal sites, monitoring data on surface waters, groundwater and soils.

Photo galleries (2013) are created for information illustrated by photos:
Basic environmental knowledge gallery (2013) contains general scientific infor-
mation concerning each environmental compartment, ordered in thematic
subgalleries of types, roles, trends, utilization, deterioration. Clicking on the
cells of the matrix, one can reach the relevant photo galleries, where fur-
ther photo galleries or just series of pictures can be found with useful written
information concerning the topic of the gallery.
Environmental management gallery (2013) collects the practically used tools
of environmental management such as assessment and monitoring tools, dif-
ferentiated physico-chemical, biological, ecotoxicological and modeling tools,
risk assessment and life cycle assessment methodologies as well as risk reducing
and remediation tools. Clicking on the cells of the matrix opens the respective
galleries with pictures and a comprehensive description of the topic.
Other galleries (2013) with miscellaneous photos introduce the institutions,
companies and people who have contributed to the development of the ENFO
knowledge base;
- DST (2013): The decision tools under this menu point are navigators, containing
expert systems for the usual categories:
Legal background;
Basic knowledge;
Practical use;
-
E-learning (2013) contains e-courses, PowerPoint presentations, essays, scientific
publications, topic chapters, videos, etc. organized into the usual matrices of the
portal:
Legal background (2013) (Figure 12.2);
Basic knowledge (2013) (Figure 12.3);
Practical use (2013).
The e-courses can be found in the cells of the matrices which are the combina-
tions of environmental compartments, organisms, chemicals, wastes and the tools for
assessment, monitoring, evaluation and environmental risk reduction/remediation

The ENFO project is introduced in the About us (2013) menu point as follows:
The ENFO project is an online-developed knowledge base, an information system
for environmentally conscious and efficient decision making. The main topics are
