Step Four:
When you're done in Camera Raw, click the OK button and it opens your HDR image in
Photoshop. However, you're still in 32-bit mode, so there's not much you can actually do
in Photoshop until you convert it to 16-bit or Photoshop's usual 8-bit mode. To do that, go
under the Image menu, under Mode, and choose 8 Bits/Channel . This brings up a dialog
asking if you want to merge your layers. You want to click Merge (flattening the image).
This brings up a small version of the regular HDR toning controls (and now your image
looks weird). To get your image looking right again, from the Method pop-up menu in the
dialog, choose Exposure and Gamma . Just doing this brings back the regular look. Now,
don't touch anything else here, just click OK and your image becomes a regular 8-bit Pho-
toshopimage, andyoucannowdoanyadditional tweaking youwanttodo(likesharpening
or finishing moves, as shown on page 184 ) .
