MAP
( 878-2135; www.kulamarketplace.com ; 15200 Haleakala Hwy; sandwiches $7, slice of pizza $3;
7am-7pm) Enjoy the view as well as a pre-made sandwich or a slice of pizza at this
gourmet market perched on the side of the volcano. You'll also find wine, chocolate,
homemade jams and arts and crafts. It's the last stop for supplies on the way to the sum-
mit.
La Provence CAFE $$$
MAP
( 878-1313; www.laprovencekula.com ; 3158 Lower Kula Rd, Waiakoa; pastries $3, lunch $10-12,
crepes $4-13; 7am-9pm Wed-Sun) One of Maui's top pastry chefs hangs his shingle here.
Even if you're not hungry, swing by to pick up a ham-and-cheese croissant or some flaky
chocolate-filled pastries for that Haleakala picnic. The chèvre green salads are a Kula
treat to savor. Coming from Pukulania, turn left off Hwy 37 onto Kaa St then turn right
onto Lower Kula Rd and drive ¼ mile.
Kula Bistro ECLECTIC $$$
MAP
( 871-2960; www.kulabistro.com ; 4566 Lower Kula Rd; breakfast $7-15, lunch & dinner $9-25;
breakfast, lunch, dinner) The airy and welcoming Kula Bistro offers a globally inspired
menu, with an emphasis on pasta and Hawaiian favorites. The menu is a bit too eclectic -
from Chinese chicken salad to Cajun-style mahimahi on focaccia to dry mein to shrimp
scampi - but the food is solid and filling after a day of exploring the national park.
Crater Coffee COFFEE CART
MAP
( 757-1342; www.cratercoffee.com ; 15200 Haleakala Hwy; coffee $4; 3am-7pm) On the early
morning climb to see the Haleakalā sunrise, it's nice to see a smiling face. Especially if
that smiling face is selling a hot cup of Maui Coffee Roasters java. This friendly coffee
cart parks in front of Kula Marketplace on Hwy 377. There's a bathroom in the building
behind the kiosk.
