8am-8pm) Maui's first PADI five-star center offers a full range of dives, from ad-
vanced night dives to ʻdiscover scuba' dives for newbies. The latter go to a reef thick
with green sea turtles - a great intro to diving.

scuba and snorkeling trips. Locals recommend the custom-built Alii Nui, a 65ft cata-
maran available for small-group scuba and sunset excursions. Maui Dive Shop has seven
locations across Maui; the Lahaina branch is located in Lahaina Gateway Mall. Come to
this branch for scuba lessons.
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
This graceful sport is easy to learn, but Maui's currents can be tricky for newcomers. Be-
ginners should consider a lesson.

students per instructor. Classes last for 90 minutes and start at $60 per person. The com-

Surfing
Never surfed before? Lahaina is a great place to learn, with first-class instructors, gentle
waves and ideal conditions for beginners. The section of shoreline known as Lahaina
Breakwall , north of Kamehameha Iki Park, is a favorite spot for novices. Surfers also
take to the waters just offshore from Launiupoko Beach Park.
