3D Scale Tool
The 3D Scale tool changes the scale of the 3D object either equally in all
dimensions, in one speciic dimension, or in two speciic dimensions. When
you activate the 3D Scale tool, the top properties change to relect the
values that you use to change the object dimensions. Thus, you can change
the object scale from the top Properties bar, 3D Control arrows, and dragging
over the 3D object.
The irst method is via the Properties bar values, which let you change the
scale of the object more precisely and accurately:
1. Select the 3D airplane object.
2. Change the top values to change the scale of the object on any or all of
the X, Y, or Z dimensions.
The second method is via the 3D Control arrows:
1. Select the 3D object. Each of the 3D control arrows now has a cube
under the rotation arc in the top of each arrow; this cube control the
scale of the object on this dimension.
2. Select the cube in the red arrow to scale the object in the Z dimension.
3. Select the blue arrow cube to scale the object in the Y dimension.
4. Select the green arrow cube to scale the object in the X dimension.
Note: You can change the scale of the object in all dimensions equally
by holding and dragging over the cube in the middle of the 3D control
arrows. When you roll over the cube, it turns yellow. Move your mouse up
to increase the size of the 3D object and down to reduce the size of the
3D object.
The third method to change the 3D object's scale is via the numerical values
in the Properties bar. When you select the 3D Scale tool, the numerical
values in the Properties bar let you change the scale of the object in any of
the 3D dimensions.
When you enter a value in the X, Y, or Z Scale ields in the Properties bar,
the value represents a percentage of the original object, as the
following example:
Note: You can change
values in the Properties
bar by pointing with
your mouse to the value
name. Dragging and
moving right or left
increases or decreases
the value.
1. Select the 3D object.
2. Choose the 3D Scale tool.
3.
In the Scale values in the Properties bar, change the X value to 2 to
double the size of the object in the X direction.
To scale the 3D object in the 3D dimensions with the same proportions, just
add the same scale value to all the three dimension values.
