Working with Third-Party
Tools
Content in 3D has been an important resource in 2D and 3D designs—
designers always need 3D content, either creating it from scratch or
importing it from other 3D applications into Photoshop. Before Adobe
announced the 3D feature in Photoshop CS3 a few years ago, there were
many third-party applications and plug-ins that tried to bridge the gap
between Photoshop and 3D content. These third-party applications were
based on the ability to communicate with Photoshop directly or through
plug-ins.
After the release of the 3D feature in Photoshop, designers relied more on
Photoshop to create 3D content and work with 3D resources in Photoshop.
This wasn't the death of third-party applications that brought 3D content in
Photoshop, because some of these applications still provide advantages for
the 3D process worklow and more capabilities for designers who work in 3D
content in Photoshop.
Let's jump a little bit away from the 3D feature in Photoshop and discover
the advantages that we can gain from these third-party additions to the 3D
worklow process. This inal chapter gives you an overview of some of the
most useful third-party applications that allow you to extend what you can
do with 3D content in Photoshop.
