In-Depth Information
A new 3D pyramid shape is created in the new layer. Next, we will create two
other smaller pyramids to complete the scene:
1. Select the 3D Camera control tool, and change the view of the pyramid
to top from the Property toolbar.
2. Show the plane guide by clicking the Toggle 3D Misc Extras icon in the
bottom of the 3D panel.
3. Duplicate the 3D pyramid layer and move the new layer to the top right
of the current one using the navigation arrows.
4. Resize the new pyramid to be smaller than the irst pyramid.
5. Duplicate the new layer to create the third pyramid.
6. Move it to the top right of the second pyramid.
7. Resize it using the 3D Resize tool to be smaller than the second one.
8. Select the top two 3D layers and merge them by choosing 3D > Merge
3D Layers. This action ensures that changing the view for the layers or
position will not afect the arrangement of the pyramids.
9. Select the newly created 3D layer and the other 3D pyramids layer and
merge them together.
10. Use the 3D Rotation tool to place the 3D pyramid model on the desert
group. You can use the Ground Plane to place the 3D model properly.
By default, Photoshop creates Ininite lights to be able to view the model
properly. The three light sources create a global environment. However, we
will create a “night mode” light that matches the desert scene in the
background:
Note: When you control
the Ininite light, you
will notice that not all
of the options are
activated, based on its
efect: you cannot drag,
slide, or point the light's
focus to the center of
the object, because it is
a global light that thus
afects all of the object's
parts.
1. In the 3D panel, click Filter by Light to show only the light resources on
the model.
2. You will notice the default three light sources under the Ininite Light
category. Select Ininite Light 1 and set its Intensity to 0.2.
3. Repeat the previous step with Ininite Light 3 with the same Intensity value.
4. Select Ininite Light 2.
5. Set the Intensity value to 0.5 to reduce the light's strength.
6. We will rotate the light source to appear as if it is coming from the back
of the pyramids. Hold the Alt key (Option on the Mac) and click where
you would like direct the light on the model.
7. Select the Rotate the Light icon to the left of the Light icon.
8. Drag the mouse on the stage to rotate the light or use the 3D-Axis
widget when the 3D Light tool is selected. Make the light come from the
back side of the pyramids as if it were coming from the sun on the
horizon.
9. Set the render quality to Ray Traced Draft or Final from the Scene section
in the 3D panel to be able to see the inal light and shadows applied to
the object.
Applying the Ininite light can be done in several ways, such as the main
light source in the previous exercise, or by adding it as a global light for the
scene before adding more directed light.
