Pittston Farm , Pittston Academy Grant, PO Box 525,
Rockwood 04478. Located north and somewhat west of
Moosehead Lake about 25 miles above Rockwood. Its location
means that few people arrive here for breakfast, lunch or dinner by acci-
dent. This outpost of civilization was a working farm suppling food for the
logging industry in the late 1800s. Today, from May 10 through April 10,
the 65-seat restaurant is open to the public and is especially busy during
snowmobile season when as many as 300 sleds can crowd the yard at one
time. Their tasty, home-cooked smorgasbord offers a mountain of deli-
cious food.
The inn at Pittston farm can accommodate as many as 60 people in cab-
ins and a carriage house. There is no phone. You can ask the folks at
Folsom's Flying Service in Greenville (
695-2821) to contact the farm by
radio. Folsom's also has a special flight from their base to the farm for
diners. You can also write ahead for reservations, but mail is picked up
only three days a week. Inexpensive.
Greenville
Frog Rock Café , Pritham Avenue, Greenville 04441. This restaurant
was the founding branch of the wacko Road Kill Café chain, but the origi-
nal owners fell out with the Wall Street types fueling the expansion and
went back to just the one establishment. They changed the name but the
quality of service and food remains good. Open year-round for lunch and
dinner with full cocktail service. Handicapped accessible. Take out avail-
able. Moderate.
695-2230.
Kelly's Landing , PO Box 336, Greenville Junction 04442. Popular fam-
ily-style restaurant located right on the lake offers a wide, varied menu
