In-Depth Information
Millinocket
It may be a mill town, but Millinocket is also a prime snowmobiling hub.
Like other Northern Maine towns you can get anywhere you want by
sled. An adult entertainment club in a nearby unorganized township
even has its own trail signs beckoning riders to stop in.
One of the nicest rides starts at the East Branch Sno Rovers Clubhouse
in Medway and heads north along the East Branch of the Penobscot
River. Clubs like the Rovers run the large grooming machines that keep
the trails in such fine shape. There will be occasional glimpses of snow-
covered Katahdin to the north and west. At Bowlin Falls, the trail crosses
the river on a 100-foot suspension bridge built especially for snowmo-
biles. Have lunch at Bowlin Camps or continue on to Shin Pond.
Trails also lead west from Millinocket toward Chesuncook and into
Baxter State Park . Only the Baxter perimeter road, which is open in
season to cars, is available for use by snowmobiles. The way is not
groomed and downed trees may be a problem.
