In-Depth Information
The free iCloud e-mail account you get with a Mac or iOS device uses IMAP, ensuring that your e-
mail is kept in sync. Thus, it's a great service to use for your standard personal e-mail instead of some
other free account.
Apple makes it easy to use iCloud on iOS devices, Macs, and Windows PCs:
• In iOS, go to the Settings app, go to the iCloud pane.
• On a Mac, open the iCloud system preference (see Figure 6-11).
• On a Windows PC, open the iCloud control panel.
In all three cases, make sure your iCloud account is active, and set the Mail switch to On. If
you're asked for your password, enter it.
You can also go to www.icloud.com via a web browser, sign in, and click the Mail icon to access
your iCloud e-mail, create new messages, delete messages, and so on.

Set an out-of-office message for iCloud mail
If you're not going to be able to access your e-mails when you're out of the office or away on vaca-
tion, you can set the iCloud.com website to automatically respond to incoming e-mails with a custom
message. These replies will continue to be sent until you turn the auto-response off.
After signing into your account at the iCloud.com website:
1. Click Mail.
2. Click the Settings button (
) and choose Preferences from the pop-up menu that ap-
pears.
3. Click the Vacation button to go to the Vacations pane.
4. Check the box next to Auto-response and enter the response to be sent in reply to any in-
coming e-mail.
5. Click the Done button.
