glance that elements are connected or separated.
When used with a large amount of visual information, colour-coding can help to loc-
ate the most important element. The reader finds it easier to distinguish between cat-
egories, and it can also make information memorable.
The New York subway map, reworked by Massimo Vignelli in 2008. Colour-coding is used to
good effect to distinguish between the various subway lines.
